Watchers

Before the muscle women were the muscle men. Barely on mi teen ages I came to see the first women really buffed. Meanwhile, in my childhood, those Italian productions called peplum invaded the TV. They were all almost the same story: "Hercules Vs You-Name-Who". But, near to Hercules, appeared another superstrong who was my favorite: Maciste.
According to internet, Maciste was born already in silent films, where he appeared in productions like Caribria or Maciste At Hell. As a child I was fascinated by his strengh feats, with really bad effects, but over all by his predisposition to goodness, nearing the innocence. Maciste was good, so good he didn't need reasons to risk his life to defend the innocent. Simplely so good that he knew about a great evil, he went to solve it, and then he walked to the sunset looking for more people who needed him. So good, that I didn't know what to do when I knew a bad man admired him.

Benito Mussolini, Italian dictator during world war II, admired Maciste even to fantasize to be him, according to some biographers. To his fascism,  Maciste incarnated the latin race perfection. That thing annoyed me, for a while I was doubtful. Then Paulo Coelho came to my help.

A reporter, wanting to put him in trouble, told him that his books were Pinochet bedtime books during his arrest in London. Simplely, Coelho answered: "nobody chooses a reader".

Nobody chooses a reader. Or an admirer. Or a critic. It made me laugh how simple it was to solve a problem which never was a problem. That Maciste had been admired by miserable people did not diminish him. Or enlarged him. Simplely, it did not touch him at all.

In sites like this, where we expose our art to be judged by who looks it, we find all kind of people; kind the most, -some become friends- and also some bitter ones who have nothing to do with their sad lives except criticize the rest. Not objective, trying to help, but with the vain attempt to hurt the artist anyway. I have found some of them along my way through the net. First time they disturb you, making ask yourself "What did I do wrong?" After you find out they are a race of useless, who always will find everything bad, because their happiness is to insult people, feeling themselves important if somebody answers them.

And if, casually, some of these stupids admire you? Well, nothing happens. Neither good nor bad.  Like Mussolini fantasizing with Maciste, it's their problem; not yours. At the end, you find out that triumphing is almost 80%, to ignore and go on.

So I always say: resist, Maciste.
